Inflexion Point: Renewable Energy Is Cheaper Than Fossil Fuels

It is imperative—no, existential—to slay the subsidy monster. The green crusaders never tire of telling us that oil and gas are swimming in subsidies while renewables are practically free as air. Very well, then. Let’s do the obvious thing: abolish every last subsidy. Torch them all.

And while we’re at it, let’s pass a law that subsidies may only exist at the municipal level. If you want to play Robin Hood with taxpayer money, you should do it close enough that your victims can see your face. No more hiding behind the faceless bureaucracy of national or continental structures. In fact, in cities like my own, with millions of residents, even the municipality is too bloated. Push it down to the districts. Force the hand that spends to be seen by the hand that pays.Of course, it will never happen. The higher the level, the easier it is to bury the crime. But it would be right. And if, as the activists chant, oil and gas are drowning in subsidies while renewables are dirt cheap, then we should have nothing to fear. Strip away the life support, and the cheapest option will naturally prevail. The market always chooses. Surely even the true believers will agree. Won’t they?
