Should we really be asking why the UN pulled this stunt? Or should we finally be asking about the UN itself? Because an organization so far removed from anything useful to nations or people has long since forfeited its right to exist.
The UN was born out of the rubble of World War II—not as some shining beacon of global brotherhood, but as a shabby compromise between two super-blocs glaring at one another across the ruins. It was never meant to solve problems, only to freeze them in amber, to keep the world from tearing itself apart long enough for the polite set to sip their cocktails and pretend civilization had grown wiser. It was seductive theater, nothing more.
The truth is uglier: the UN is, and always has been, one colossal lie. Not just on climate, but on everything it touches. Its entire edifice is built on the fantasy that inaction dressed up as diplomacy is some kind of virtue.Time to let it go. But don’t rush to build a replacement. Let the scaffolding collapse, and let the world reacquaint itself with reality for a while—raw, unmediated, unpadded. Only then might we remember what solving problems actually looks like.
