A date so far out that every single senior, “decision-making” luminary responsible for today’s mess will be safely retired, golfing their way into senescence while their successors inherit the flaming wreckage. It’s the bureaucratic version of leaving a grenade with the pin halfway out on your successor’s desk and calling it “strategic planning.”
But that’s not even the real obscenity. If they faced the issue now, today, in the full glare of public scrutiny, they’d have to confess an unthinkable truth: national economies cannot run on unicorn piss and pinkie dust. You can’t conjure solvency by wishful spreadsheets and greenwashed hallucinations. You can’t legislate physics into submission just because your last TED talk got a standing ovation from the spiritually gullible.
Addressing it now would force an adult conversation — an honest grapple with whether any of this legislation makes sense or whether it’s just another technocratic fever dream wrapped in moral grandstanding. But honesty, of course, is the one resource they refuse to tap. If they acknowledged reality, the entire scaffolding of subsidies, illusions, and careerist self-reward would wobble like a drunk on an ice rink.
So they kick the can. And why not? As long as the subsidy hose keeps spraying, their friends and relatives can secure all the plush jobs, advisory roles, and “consulting fees” before everyone quietly cashes out. The plan is simple: siphon off everything in reach, retire to a charming farm in Patagonia, and let the plebs — the taxpayers, voters, and useful idiots — sweep up the debris once the scaffolding finally collapses.Bring it on now. Stop hiding behind the calendar like it’s some kind of divine buffer. If the building’s burning, you don’t hand the hose to the next shift. You face it. But of course, facing it requires integrity, and that’s the one commodity they’ve already exported offshore.
