I adore extremists. Truly. They’re the most honest creatures in the political ecosystem because they refuse to play the polite little games everyone else indulges in. They don’t compromise, they don’t care about unintended consequences, and they certainly don’t give a damn if the broader population collapses into abject poverty as long as their sacred ideological scriptures are upheld. You can’t reason with them, you can’t bargain with them, you can’t even coexist with them in a grown-up fashion. It’s their way or the abyss, and they’ll happily drag the world into the abyss while smiling serenely. There’s something almost refreshing about that level of brutal clarity.
And funnily enough, they are becoming Europe’s greatest gift. For years, Europe’s political class has been muddling along, trying to finesse themselves out of catastrophes they engineered, bluffing, delaying, pretending that reality would somehow politely step aside if only the virtue-signalling was loud enough. Now reality is walking up and slapping them in the face — and our beloved extremists are the ones doing the slapping.
Reality is merciless. You can fudge implementation, stall deadlines, and quietly ignore enforcement for a while. But repealing entire legislative fantasies? That’s a different beast. Yet that’s exactly where this trajectory leads. Even constitutional structures aren’t holy relics; ask the Americans — Prohibition wasn’t merely ignored, it was ripped out by the roots and thrown away once life became unbearable enough.
The more the extremists double down, the more they accelerate the backlash. Every demand, every escalation, every refusal to compromise builds momentum toward tearing down the very policies they worship. They think they’re fortifying the temple. In truth, they’re weakening the foundations with religious zeal and blind arrogance.
So please, my dear ideological purists, keep pushing, keep screaming, keep demanding the impossible. You are driving stakes straight into the beast you believe you’re empowering. If there’s ever been a perfect definition of the useful idiot, it’s this.
