Does anyone crafting such a headline ever pause—just for a fleeting second—to think about what it actually communicates to those of us whose brains haven’t yet been fully sautéed by the climate-alarmist barrage? One sentence, a single lazy line, is enough to expose the grotesque hypocrisy of the whole circus: a country that burns more than half of the world’s coal is somehow hailed as the savior of the green movement because it makes the right soothing noises while its actions spit directly into the faces of every activist on Earth.
Causes like climate change are a godsend for regimes like China. They get to lecture the world from atop a moral pulpit they built out of coal dust, while ignoring every policy they demand others obey. They lie, deceive, and swindle with the ease of long practice—and nothing happens to them, because that’s what totalitarian states do as naturally as breathing. And it harmonizes beautifully with the climate movement’s own totalitarian impulses: the all-knowing priesthood, the apocalyptic sermons, the hunger for control dressed up as salvation. Those who resemble, assemble. It’s hardly a mystery.
