Is this letter actually meant to be taken seriously? And by that I mean: does the author truly expect a response? If so, he is naïve. Worse, he fundamentally misunderstands how modern politics works.
Politicians do not care about what happens down there. They care about their position up here. And they are in that position courtesy of the party — without which many of them would be collecting empty bottles and cans for a living. That dependency is total. Which means their first, last, and only real priority is to inhale the party narrative and exhale it again on command, regardless of reality.
Reality is a nuisance in this setup. A distraction. So it is carefully avoided.
Would they care about constituents if they had the time? Possibly. But there is no time. The calendar is full: party events, factional rituals, flattering those above them, and preemptively kneecapping those below who might one day threaten their perch. Survival is a full-time occupation.
A true politician will, when cornered, make all the right noises. Sympathetic expressions. Concerned phrasing. Earnest promises. Inside, however, there is nothing. Not even enough interest to remember the encounter five minutes later. He has spent years kissing backsides, scheming, lying, maneuvering, and doing a variety of morally unsanitary things to get where he is. The actual job — representing people — is an afterthought.
This is not about bad apples. This is about structure. And the structure selects exactly for this behavior, in every party, every time.
